Turmeric May Be More Than A Colorful Spice

As it appears research into Turmeric shows the spice may act as an anti-inflammatory (like Tylenol), help prevent colon cancer, block Alzheimer's, dull arthritis pain and taste good.  It's sometimes used as a substitute for saffron because of it's strong yellow color. Serve it with eggs to brighten their color. It's also been used as a dye for staining yellow spots into my counter top for some time. Turmeric is one of the main ingredients in traditional curry powder, which as I've mentioned before is a blend of spices, not a spice on it's own. Turmeric has a warm and slightly bitter peppery taste. We love Turmeric on the cart and use it in plentiful quantities in most of our curries, either on it's own or with curry powder. It's non-allergenic and safe to eat, so with all the extra health benefits enjoy it in plentiful amounts! Eat it in any lentil dish, with candied apples and, if you're feeling adventurous, stir a small amount into your coffee, it may surprise you.
